Flacco, Charles among worthwhile added starters

Flacco, Charles among worthwhile added starters It's the first week of the playoffs for most fantasy Football leagues, so it wouldn't seem like the time to gamble on your starters in Week 14.

A closer look at the numbers, however, reveals that certain players on your bench may be better options this week than those currently in your starting lineup. Consider starting -- and sitting -- the following players this week:

Start: Joe Flacco, QB, Baltimore Ravens: Two touchdowns and six interceptions in the past five games have understandably forced many Flacco owners to send him to the bench, but that should change Sunday when he gets the ultimate fantasy green light in facing the Detroit Lions. The Ravens desperately need a win, and the Lions have allowed the most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season.

Sit: Jay Cutler, QB, Chicago Bears: The league's leader in interceptions with 20 gets a Green Bay team that had four of those picks in the first week of the season. Even a home game against St. Louis in Week 13 wasn't enough to get Cutler out of his slump, as he finished with just 143 yards and one touchdown.

Start: Jamaal Charles, RB, Kansas City Chiefs: Charles has been a decent option since taking over as the starter for Larry Johnson. He's got three touchdowns in his past four games and gets the Bills' league-worst rushing defense Sunday. The Bills have allowed the most fantasy points to opposing running backs of any team this year.

Sit: LeSean McCoy, RB, Philadelphia Eagles: First, Brian Westbrook practiced this week and could return to face the New York Giants. Second, those Giants have allowed 64 yards rushing per game at home this season. Third, McCoy has just six carries for 2 yards last week -- and the Eagles won, 34-7, at Atlanta.

Start: Davone Bess, WR, Miami Dolphins: The Fins took the shackles off QB Chad Henne last week, allowing him to throw 52 times (completing 29) for 335 yards. The most popular recipient was Bess, the second-year pro from Miami who set career highs with 10 catches and 117 yards (plus a touchdown). Miami meets a poor Jacksonville secondary this week, making Bess a solid option as a No. 2 receiver or flex position player.

Sit: Santana Moss, WR, Washington Redskins: Moss gets the best player in the league most people don't know about, Oakland Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, in Week 14. The Raiders have allowed just 11 receiving touchdowns this season. Moss has scored just one touchdown since Week Four and hasn't cracked 75 yards in a game in that time.

Start: Jermichael Finley, TE, Green Bay Packers: Finley is developing into one of Aaron Rodgers' favorite red-zone targets. He had 79 yards and two touchdowns in Week 13 against Baltimore and has 17 catches in the last three weeks.

Be careful to check the inactives Sunday morning since Finley has been limited in practice this week with a knee injury. Assuming he can play, he makes for a good start against the Bears.

Sit: John Carlson, TE, Seattle Seahawks: After a 95-yard, two-touchdown performance in the season opener, Carlson has been thoroughly ordinary. He's scored just once and has had only one game of more than 50 yards receiving since that time.

Start: Tennessee Titans defense: Outside of Steven Jackson, the Rams don't have many offensive weapons, so the Titans are a good play. There's also a good chance they are available in your league's waiver pool.

Sit: Cincinnati Bengals defense: Brett Favre and the Vikings have averaged 31.3 points per game at home this season, which makes for a tough matchup for the Bengals.

Analyzing the Bills

The Chiefs have allowed the seventh-most points to fantasy receivers this year, which makes both Terrell Owens and Lee Evans solid options. Despite both offenses struggling this season, I've got a feeling this game could turn into a shootout. Running back Fred Jackson is a solid play for the Bills along with Owens and Evans.

On the K.C. side, start Charles, as mentioned above. With Dwayne Bowe still suspended, the Chiefs don't have many attractive receiving options, so sit them down as well as quarterback Matt Cassel. Despite having the league's worst rushing defense, the Buffalo secondary is fourth in the league, giving up 188.2 yards per game.
