--The lawyer for Chris Henry says the former Bengals wide receiver is broke. Attorney Perry Ancona filed a motion July 7 in a Hamilton County (Ohio) court that asks for taxpayers to pay for a written transcript of Henry's trial. Henry was arrested after a March 31 incident and charged with criminal damaging and assault. The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that a judge threw out the criminal damaging charge, saying Cincinnati prosecutors couldn't prove the allegation. A mistrial was declared a week earlier on the assault charge when jurors couldn't come to a unanimous verdict.
Henry's $360,000 house in Florence, Ky., which he brought in 2005 during his rookie year, was auctioned in May when he failed to pay the mortgage. Henry's SUV was repossessed last month while he was in court.
--The Bengals' third coordinator in six years, Mike Zimmer is charged with fixing the team's weakest half. They will be young. Of the projected 11 defensive starters, seven have two or fewer years of NFL experience with rookie linebacker Keith Rivers, second-year players Marvin White and Chinedum Ndukwe and Leon Hall in the secondary and third-year players Domata Peko at tackle, Rashad Jeanty at outside linebacker and Johnathan Joseph at cornerback.
--In 2007, the Bengals ranked dead last in the NFL in two major categories, sacks defensively (22) and punt returns (4.9 yards average).
QUOTE TO NOTE: "Hey, they're playing a very physical and hands-on style of defense. It's a very good style of defense. It's one of the most disruptive things in the pass game when they can get their hands on people and slow down the process of when the guys get to where he's supposed to be. It throws things out of rhythm." -- Bengals offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski, on the pressure coverage applied by the Bengals defense under first-year coordinator Mike Zimmer.
