Q:Hey, Tony: Safety Mike Brown visited the Browns . What is the story? Are the Browns going to sign him? - Angelo Costanzo, Cleveland
A:Hey, Angelo: The Kansas City Chiefs signed him Thursday, but I do get the feeling the Browns are not quite comfortable with their free safety situation. Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan said it's a very difficult position in the Browns' scheme. I sense they will continue to look for a smarter player to man that position, currently held down by Brodney Pool.
Q:Hey, Tony: Do you think Eric Mangini will get a fair shot at the job or do you think there is already a lot of negativity attached to him in the general public? (Mike Florio of profootballtalk.com ranked the hiring of Mangini as one of the top two worst moves in the off-season by any team.) In all my years as a Browns fan, the new coach always equals excitement, but this is the first I time I can remember not having a lot of positive vibes for a new coach. - Michael Spitale, Galena, Ohio
A:Hey, Michael: A year ago, it was fashionable to regard the Browns as contenders. This year, the fad is to rip them as a horrible team. I think the Browns are in perfect position to surprise everybody. Their schedule is favorable, and Mangini & Co. don't have a tough act to follow. I am holding steady right now at an 8-8 season (subject to change).
