1) Mark Mindel, Ballston Lake: Can you say Super Horse? Rachel Alexandra may simply be the best filly ever, waltzing to another near 20-length romp, this time in the Mother Goose at Belmont and smashing the stakes record to boot. Coupled with her huge win in the Kentucky Oaks and her gutty victory over the boys in the Preakness, it will be interesting to see the path trainer Steve Asmussen and owner Jess Jackson -- Curlin's connections -- choose for her, with the Travers looming a big possibility. The Breeders' Cup needs to move its championship from Santa Anita's fake surface immediately as Jackson has indicated Rachel will never race there. 2) Mike Fusco, Albany: I don't understand the thinking of New York Jets management. They have a new quarterback through the 2009 draft (Mark Sanchez), and yet they get rid of Laveranues Coles, for the second time. Coles is a tremendous athlete who would have been one of the Jets' deep threats this year, but now Jerricho Cotchery remains the only real deep threat. I guess the Jets will go with the "small gains" offense this year. I hope it works.
3) Rodger Wyland's quick take: Manny Ramirez is being made into a hero these days in Albuquerque, N.M., where he was rehabbing with the Dodgers' triple-A affiliate. Ramirez was suspended by Major League Baseball for violating the drug policy, but in Albuquerque they celebrated his return, and I am sure making money by selling a lot of tickets.
